Ο Πρωθυπουργός κ. Αντώνης Σαμαράς, συναντήθηκε σήμερα στις Βρυξέλλες, με τον Πρόεδρο του Ευρωπαϊκού Κοινοβουλίου κ. Martin Schulz. Μετά τη συνάντηση, έγιναν οι ακόλουθες δηλώσεις:

Martin Schulz: Prime Minister and I had a very good conversation for the exchange of views about the Greek Presidency and about the current situation within the European Union, within Greece. I gave once more an entire insurance of support of the European Parliament for Greece, not only for the incoming Presidency, but also, as a country with enormous political and economic challenges.
My support for Prime Minister Samaras and his government on the way – in my eyes – to get out of the crisis, there are signals, not yet in a situation of solution, but there is light at the end of the tunnel. If there is in reality, and I think it will be the case, a surplus in the primary budget in Greece, I think we should give the country the chance to show that the efforts are really there and for the decision to be taken, should be taken in the light of the real economic development of possible recovery of the country.
We agreed about some of the major guidelines, you will later present, with the European Parliament as points of the Greek Presidency. Here, we spoke about border control, about immigration, about problems of border protection, about better sharing within the European Union to manage better the immigration problems, as it is the case today.
And at the end, we discussed some of the institutional questions related to the next European elections.

Αντώνης Σαμαράς: I am happy myself to be back in the European Parliament, where I have served for almost four years in the past. I had the opportunity to discuss with President Schulz both on the forthcoming Greek Presidency and the latest progress of the Greek Economy.
The Greek Presidency, Mr. President, is decided to work very closely and consult with the European Parliament. It is a democratic “must” that we must all follow. And it is, also, a signal of solidarity for all of us.
We have both agreed on growth enhancement policies and job creation as our top priorities, along with further integration steps, as well as initiatives – as the President said – on Mobility, on Migration and an all encompassing European Maritime Policy.
And I’m happy that the President is, as always, very growth oriented. Because, as you know Greece is coming out of an unprecedented crisis. Despite very difficult social hardships, signaling the determination of the Greek people and of our European partners to shape a common future for all. A future which will be based, Mr. President, on solidarity, competitiveness, responsibility and growth.
Thank you very much for the opportunity you gave me to see you again.
